Why $85
This is a small-batch shirt, made to order by a technical-apparel shop. The art is based on original hand-painted work by Electra co-founder Heather Alvis, a painter of thirty years. Every sale supports Electra's work on Farm Solar Fit, a decision tool that helps farmers and ranchers see whether solar fits their property, and on what terms.
The painting
Pre-order through October 30 at the $78 launch price (regular $85). Ships in December.
First Light is the moment a farm wakes up. The sky is still pink over the ridge, the sheep are already grazing under the panels, the cows have not decided to stand up yet, and the bees are just starting to move in the hives behind the barn. It is cool enough for long sleeves and bright enough that you want a hood. This is the hour agrivoltaics was made for: land that grows food and power at the same time, with room for the animals in between.
The artwork wraps the whole shirt. Front: sheep grazing beneath a solar array with wildflowers in the foreground. Back: a pair of Jersey cows in the pasture, the farmhouse, hives, and a second array behind them. Sleeves carry the fields out to the horizon, and the hood is lined with the sunrise sky.
